Our camps offer children positive developmental experiences that build confidence through skill-building activities suited to their age. Campers are able to explore creativity, teamwork and leadership in a wide range of physically active programs that influence lifelong healthy living. They also have the opportunity to enjoy an outdoor environment where they develop an appreciation of nature.
Summer Camp plays an important part in the lives of our communities’ youth as they develop towards adulthood. Children realize important life lessons and make memories each day as they learn from their surroundings and peers. Whatever interest your child has, there is a Y camp for them. Led by caring, highly trained staff, you can rest assure that your child is in a safe, nurturing environment.

Children's Island Day Camp
Children’s Island Day Camp
Experience the magic of Children's Island, a beautiful ocean oasis in Marblehead Harbor. From sailing, wake boarding, kayaking to arts and crafts, the saltwater swimming pool and sports, the island is like no other day camp in the area. Discover our special Island Ranger Program. Every afternoon a camper’s choice period allows campers to try new activities or revisit an old favorite. As the day wraps up everyone meets back at the flag pole before a relaxing boat ride back to shore. By the end of the session, campers have forged lasting relationships with friends and staff and created memories that will last until they return next summer and create new ones all over again. To ensure a quality camp experience with time to learn skills, engage in activities, form friendships and build memories that last a lifetime, programs on Children’s Island are designed around a two week session. The first week is designed to introduce skills as well as begin to build and form a group spirit with fellow campers. The second week enhances skills and allows the friendships and camaraderie to develop.
Children’s Island Seal Pup Camp
If your camper is ready to explore the island and have an adventure this summer, then Seal Pups is right for them. Seal Pup campers can explore the island, swim in the pool, treasure hunt on our beaches, play sports on the field, and get a great introduction to a traditional outdoor camp. Campers get to experience most of our camp activities in small groups and at a pace that just right for them. Cap it all off with an exciting boat ride to and from camp each day and you have a summer adventure they won’t forget.
This teen program is designed for the older campers that want more time to experience island adventures. Teens will be able to kayak around the Island and to surrounding islands, swim and dive in the open waters, as well as learn to cook and survive in the island setting. Teens will have a say in determining their daily activity choices.
Children’s Island Counselor-In-Training Program
The CIT program is for those teens that want to develop leadership skills and learn how to work with children effectively and professionally. This program is designed train teens with counseling techniques, but the skills they develop will benefit participants in any job situation. CITs will be mentored by Island staff, train and work with groups on conflict resolution and program planning, as well as have time to enjoy the Island and activities. The first week of the program CITs are coached and trained using the same training curriculum our staff goes through. In subsequent weeks CITs are placed with a mentor staff member who works with them to identify strengths and improve weaknesses in a CIT’s skills. Teens who wish to participate in the CIT program must apply for a limited number of positions. Applications are available at the Y and on our website.

Children’s Island Sailing Camp
Aboard our fleet of 14 foot American Daysailers, campers will learn to sail under the guidance and expertise of our sailing staff. On sailing trips to locations such as Misery Island and Brown’s Island, campers will sharpen sailing abilities and learn basic racing techniques. This camp accommodates the beginner and intermediate sailors and uses a progressive curriculum that ensures campers are challenged while still having fun.
Children’s Island Race Sailing Camp
Camper Age: 10 and up This camp is designed for campers who want to learn more advanced skills and develop an appreciation for the sport of sailing. Using our fleet of 420 sail boats, campers will learn advanced sailing techniques.
Camper Age: 10 and up This camp will teach basic wakeboarding skills to help you get up on the board and have fun! Experienced boarders will be challenged to try new things. Some tubing, and other fun water sports will be thrown in for some variety over the course of the week. All equipment provided, wetsuits optional but encouraged.
Children’s Island Rangers Camp
Focusing on outdoor skills, this camp utilizes the Island’s unique surroundings to create a two week experience that builds teamwork, leadership, and fun. Over the course of the program, participants work towards earning patches by engaging in different activities such as fort building, knot tying, rock climbing, boating, orienteering, archery, snorkeling, and teambuilding games. Expect your Island experience to be taken to the extreme.
Family Camping on Children's Island
No equipment to buy. No long trips in the car. Just pack your clothes and food and sign-up for a weekend of fun on Children’s Island with the family. The YMCA provides tents, boat transportation, charcoal grill, lifeguards, picnic tables and an evening campfire. The Island has a large pool, bathrooms, kayaks, and lots of fishing opportunities as well as room for games and kites. Come join us for a magical day and night on the Island where everyone is guaranteed an ocean view.
Family Picnic Days On Children’s Island
Did you know that Saturday picnic days on Children’s Island were included in your YMCA membership? Create a new family tradition, bring the whole family and explore this wonderful island right in our back yard. The boat departs State St. Landing in Marblehead at 10:00am and returns to land at 2:00pm. Staff are on the Island running activities and the pool and beaches are open for swimming and kayaking. Bring your own picnic lunch, grills are available to cook on.

On site camp at the Lynch/van Otterloo YMCA has options for every child's interest in a fun, supportive environment with highly trained staff.
Small Fry Camp
Small Fry Camp is designed to provide a fun and rewarding camp experience for the first time camper. Sign your child up for a summer filled with field trips, art activities, gym games, and swimming. To allow time for field trips Wednesdays the bus will return at 2:00 pm.
Children will learn about historic fairy tales involving princesses, wicked stepmothers, and princes. They will hear stories, play games, and work on medieval themed crafts. The camp will conclude with a Happily Ever After Tea party.
Book Cooks Camp
Is your child interested in learning the basics of cooking? At this camp, participants will read a story and then cook a dish related to the story. For example, we will read Cloudy with a Chance of Meatballs and then make meatballs.
Discover the Great Artists
This camp gives kids the opportunity to paint and create just like the great art masters of years gone by. Campers will learn a little about the “Artist of the Day” and be shown works they created. They will then spend the majority of their day creating their own master piece in the vein of the day’s artist. Who knows, you may end up with the next Michelangelo or Picasso!
Young Scientists Camp
Have your child learn the answers to the mysteries of science through fun hands-on activities. We will create volcanoes and fossils, build towers, and fly model planes! Activities will be held both indoors and outdoors with swimming offered every day. Sign up and get your child hooked on the fun and exciting world of science today!
Star Wars Camp
Ready to be a Jedi? For a week you can train in the ways of the Force. You will have light saber training, learn to draw Star Wars characters, play Jedi games, and work together to solve a mission. Sure to be a favorite, sign up fast as the force is strong with this one.
Explorers is designed for the camper who wants to continue with a field trip based camp or a half day camp. Campers participate in more advanced athletic activities, swimming, and art projects. To allow time for field trips, Wednesdays the bus will return at 2:00 pm. Campers will have a special Explorers and Junior Leader only field trip on select Wednesdays. There will be a full day trip to places such as Water Country, Canobie Lake Park, and Castle Island.
Send your child on a culinary adventure! This camp teaches kids to follow a recipe, measure ingredients, and use kitchen tools. Each day, your child will learn how to whip up a delicious snack and lunch for themselves.
Science Discovery Camp
Discovery camp will engage campers in the world of science. By combining all aspects of STEM, we ensure that kids not only learn essential new skills, but have fun while doing so.
Harry Potter Camp
Do you have what it takes to enter Hogwarts? Can you learn potions and play Quiddich?
Iron Chef Camp
Did you ever dream of making your own recipe? In this camp participants will be given a number of ingredients and the freedom to create their own original dish. On the last day a cook off will be held where campers get to use what they learned over the course of the week to try and be crowned the YMCA Iron Chef!
The Junior Leaders will have an opportunity to help plan weekly activities. The campers will have time for swimming, art, and gym games. To allow time for field trips, Wednesdays the bus will return at 2:00 pm. Campers will have a special Explorers and Junior Leader only field trip on select Wednesdays. There will be a full day trip to places such as Water Country, Canobie Lake Park, and Castle Island.
Do you love constructing with Legos? Join us for this hands-on exciting Camp! We’ll test different building methods and challenge your building ability with our daily Lego challenges.
Sports & Adventure
Morning Archery Camp
This camp will give you the opportunity to learn how to shoot a bow and arrow. The history of archery, making an arrow, and shooting etiquette will be introduced.
Sign your child up to for an exciting week learning outdoor life and adventure skills! Campers will be taught proper rock climbing techniques, map and compass skills, and backpacking basics. The camp wraps up with Friday fire building and a lesson about fire safety.
Jr. Adventure Camp
Give your kids the opportunity to have an adventure while participating in safe, fun and engaging activities! Participants will learn about local plants and animals while walking through the woods, observe marine life while exploring a local beach, and get the chance to climb the rock wall and swim in the pool during activity time at the Y. A love of the outdoors comes at no extra charge.
Camper Ages: 10 and up Expand your child’s love of the outdoors. We will build wilderness shelters, go kayaking, and take a trip to a ropes course. On Thursday we will spend the night under the stars on the Y field.
Mini Sports Mania Camp
This camp offers a wide variety of sports and physical activities for the active child. It includes soccer, hockey, football, basketball, t-ball, swim time and other age appropriate games. Children will learn the skills of each sport with the goal to improve each day throughout the week! Please pack a snack, lunch, bathing suit,water bottle and towel.
Join YMCA staff for a fun week of soccer! Players will learn the skills of dribbling, shooting and passing using their inside, outside, laces and the bottom of their feet. Children will take part in games and activities that will teach them the skills. Please note this is not a competitive camp but strictly for learning and to enjoy a fun and positive atmosphere. Please bring sneakers, cleats, shin guards, snack and lunch including a water bottle.
Flag Football & Baseball Camp
Each day, campers will play a combination of activities for baseball and flag football. Skills will be taught daily with games throughout the week. This is a great camp for the active child who enjoys playing sports and learning the games. Please pack a baseball glove, snack and lunch including a water bottle.
Nerf Blasters Extravaganza Camp
Our popular Nerf Blasters class is now a camp. Join us each day for an action packed camp. Campers will have daily missions and objectives and have the experience to go on a scavenger hunt and participate in obstacle courses. Please pack a snack, water bottle and swimming gear.
Sports Mania Camp
Our camp will teach children a broad range of sports including baseball, football, soccer, basketball and hockey. They will have time to swim in our pool daily. Children will learn the fundamental skills of each sport, as well as the importance of teamwork and fair play. The goal is to give the children well rounded knowledge on sports that may be new to them and how to improve! Please pack a snack, lunch, bathing suit and towel.
We are excited to offer our biking camp for its third summer. Campers will learn how to inspect to their bikes before each trip and will be taught the rules of the road and how to confidently ride safely on the road. We will travel all throughout all Salem and Marblehead. All campers need to bring their own bikes and helmet. Please pack a change of clothes, snack and water bottle.
Learn to ride the waves in this fun filled adventure camp. Campers will learn basics of surfing and experienced surfers will get to work on their techniques with our experienced staff. Along with surfing, children will have the opportunity to use skim boards and boogy boards, as well as be introduced to the Hawaiian surf culture. The camp will travel to long beach in Nahant. Camp meets at the YMCA and will travel by van. Surfboards will be provided by the Y. Wet suits are optional but encouraged. Campers must be able to pass the YMCA swim test. This may be done prior to camp or on the first day of camp.
Skateboard Travel Camp
This camp is for the child who loves to skateboard. Campers will meet at the YMCA and will travel by Y van to local skate parks. Local skate parks may include, Peabody, Newburyport, Beverly, Salem, Danvers, but are not limited to them. This is not for the first time skater, campers should sign up for this if they, have been to camp previous, taken Y skate classes or feel that they are ready to try new skate venues. Please pack extra water, snacks and a lunch.
Rising Stars Gymnastics Camp
Bounce the summer away! Boys and girls are placed in groups based on age and ability and receive instruction on all of the Olympic apparatus including the trampoline. There will be two set days that swim time will be incorporated into our day! Our dynamic staff of experienced professionals are hired for their knowledge and ability to teach young children. Each session ends with an award ceremony and exciting gym show for family and friends.
Shooting Stars Gymnastics Camp
Boys and girls of all abilities experience the thrill of learning new skills. Our qualified staff works with small groups to identify individual strengths and help campers reach their highest potential. Teamwork and goal-setting are emphasized. Game time and open work-out are incorporated daily, along with a refreshing swim in our outdoor pool. Campers will participate in an end of the session gym show and awards ceremony for families and friends.
Super Stars Gymnastics Camp
This is an advanced camp for our Mini Team & Level 2 gymnasts and anybody interested in joining our competitive program next year. Our experienced, highly qualified staff works with small groups to identify individual strengths and help campers reach their highest potential.
